I had to share this one with you all.
I was idly browsing early this morning; very early, youngest woke me up at 5.45am. I couldn't get back to sleep as a certain someone was snoring. So what to do but go online!
One link led to another and I happened across http://www.commoncraft.com/
In a nutshell Common Craft excel at explaining in simple terms, sometimes difficult concepts. They are simply brilliant at breaking down what a thing is, what it means, how to use it, how you would use it and such like.
What's more, if you're an individual, you can use their videos for free. Commercials and organisations making 'mad paper' have to cough up some dough, but, it's a very reasonable charge.
The special thing about Common Craft videos is that they are fun to watch. Look closely and you'll see the bits of cotton used to create the animations. The thing is; the cotton looks great. One gets a distinct impression that the cotton is there because it works not because it makes the videos quirky. The videos are effective learning aids first and fun and enjoyable a very close second.
At first I imagined a big marketing agency and a team of animators behind the productions but according to their website they are a husband and wife team with a purpose to enjoy their life and do something useful.
I find them altogether inspirational. The delivery is great and their honesty and passion for what they do shines through. It seems likely that these admirable traits have helped them acquire some pretty big names for customers, Microsoft, Google and others use or have used their services.
The husband and wife team had an idea and a passion. They developed that idea and let their passion seep in to and give life to their idea. They are an example of how to do something great.
I have been stuck on their site all morning so be careful....
